This scan is recommended if you have knee pain, swelling, stiffness, reduced movement, have suffered an injury, or have a suspected tendon, ligament or soft tissue problem. Common Findings:

  • Tendon and ligament injuries, including patellar and quadriceps tendons and the knee ligaments
  • Knee bursitis, joint inflammation and fluid
  • Baker's cysts (fluid-filled swelling behind the knee) and muscle injuries

At Clarity Ultrasound, your peace of mind is our priority. All of our scans are performed by HCPC-registered sonographers with NHS training — meaning that you receive the highest level of professional expertise and compassionate care. From the moment you arrive, you’ll find a clinic that’s accessible and staffed by friendly, knowledgeable professionals who are always ready to answer your questions, both before and after your scan.

A knee ultrasound scan is a safe, painless examination that uses sound waves to create detailed images of the tendons, ligaments, muscles, bursae, joints and other soft tissues around the knee. It can help investigate symptoms such as knee pain, swelling, stiffness, reduced movement, or injuries caused by sport, work or everyday activities. During the examination, ultrasound gel is applied to the skin and a small handheld probe is moved over different areas of the knee while you may be asked to bend or straighten your leg. This dynamic assessment allows the sonographer to examine the knee both at rest and during movement, helping to identify the cause of your symptoms. The scan is usually well tolerated, involves no radiation, and provides valuable information to help guide appropriate treatment or onward referral.

Our patient-centred approach means you benefit from shorter wait times, and a personalised experience tailored to your needs. We provide scan images and reports directly to your device, often on the same day following your appointment. Clarity Ultrasound combines clinical excellence, compassion and convenience, so you get timely, professional ultrasound services — and most importantly, the reassurance and clarity you deserve, without unnecessary delays.
